Sigma 10 20mm f 4 5 6 EX DC HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

May 5th, 2009 · No Comments · Nikon Lenes

Sigma provides the new ultra-wide angle zoom lens from 15mm and this lens is the first of its kind in the world. It can be useful for images of landscapes, large buildings, group photographs or even more. The perspective that changes with the angle-of-view gives picture an extraordinary feeling.Delicate compositions can be adjusted by lens zooming and this is helpful for close-up photography. Provides deep depth of field with its short focal length for amazing photographic expressions. This ultra-wide zoom lens covers a large wide-angle range from 15 mm to 30 mm. With a minimum focusing distance of 30 cm(11.8 inches) throughout the entire zoom range, it is an ideal lens for Digital SLR Cameras. It incorporates hybrid aspherical lens in the front lens group to minimize distortion and astigmatism, and molded glass aspherical lens in the rear lens group to minimize spherical aberration. Minimization of the distortion is a most important issue for zoom lens, but Sigma has succeeded, to provide image quality with minimal distortion by employing aspherical lenses. This lens incorporates an internal focusing system, which eliminates front lens rotation. Since focusing do not change its overall length, this lens is easy to hold and use. Also it is allowing the use of a Petal-type Hood. The lens also incorporates Dual-Focus (DF) mechanism. It is easy to hold the lens, since the focusing ring does not rotate during auto-focus, yet it provides adequate focusing torque of the focusing ring during manual focusing of the lens.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Wide angle lens
I haven’t had this lens for very long but I am impressed so far. I used it to take a large group shot and was very happy with the result.

5 Stars Must have for any landscape photographer
I was skeptic about Sigma lenses as I have heard mixed reviews (some say Sigma’s products are good, while some say stay away, and the others opine that their QC is not strong). I must say I am pleasantly surprised by the outcome. The lens produces quite good resolution, even if you crop the pictures significantly, it does not lose its sharpness. It does produce some image distorting (stretching at the edges) around 10mm, but I feel this adds to the beauty. The distortion is minor and not as much as a fisheye lens.

I bought this to use with my Nikon D60, and its has become my primary lens!

5 Stars Excellent lens for a good price!
I use this lens primarily with my Canon 40D & I’m well pleased with it’s performance. This is my only non-Canon lens & it’s very comparable in build & optical quality. This is a good looking lens & most importantly, the optical quality is very good. Fast, quiet AF & very versatile. I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a wide angle zoom at a reasonable price.

5 Stars Fanstastic lens and a great value
First off, a wide-angle is sensor specific so there are just a few top contenders for Canon’s APC-S (1.6x crop factor) cameras. I shoot with the Canon EOS 40D. The downside here is that if you choose to get a full-frame camera body such as the Canon EOS 5D, you will need to replace this and any other EF-S lenses you own.

The Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 has everything I valued going for it: price, build quality, great glass and zoom range. It also comes with a lens hood which the more expensive Canon competitor does not.

I rented a couple of comparable lenses to help in my decision: the Tokina 11-16mmf/2.8 and the Canon 10-22m f/3.5-5.6

The Canon 10-22mm, like all EF-S lenses I’ve used, is built like a toy in comparison to other lenses. Cheap, plastic, loose tolerances. While it did produce OK results, I got vignetting wide open. Considering that its’ price is higher than all the rest, it did not look like a good value.

The Tokina, on the other hand, was build like a tank. Great contrast, clarity and fast. However, I decided that I didn’t need the f/2.8 or the extra $100 on the price tag and did want the extra zoom range. But it is a great lens and you can read my review on the product page.

Regardless, I am completely satisfied with this lens and highly recommend it over the Canon.

5 Stars Great lens for wide angle photography
I love this lens for capturing landscape photos. It’s solidly built, takes great photos and never has given me any problems. It very heavy for it’s size — a lot heavier than it looks. I guess that means it’s built like a tank!
