5 Stars Canon Review
Great camera. Takes great pictures and is easy to operate. It has just enough options to take good pictures, but is easy for a novice to use. Would recommend this camera for someone who likes taking pictures and has a little bit of experience with utlizing the different options.

4 Stars good little camera
We purchased this camera because we wanted something smaller for when we were on vacation and I can easily slip this into my purse. The image stabilization feature works well as I have not taken one unclear picture. We recently returned from a trip to Mexico, and though I’m not a pro at all, the pictures were very good. I would recommend this camera to almost anyone who wants a small, camera that takes quality pics.

5 Stars Best camera I ever have so far.
I had this camera for less than a month, and loving it.

Pros: Very compact, can fit in your shirt pocket

Battery life is good. It only takes 1 and 1/2 hour to charge

Takes crisp pictures (I use 3.1mp to 8mp settings)

With 8GB sdhc card, I can take videos with sound at high def (680i)

quality!!

Cons: It takes 2-3seconds to actually take a shot after you press the

shoot button so you miss some spontaneous moments.

Overall impression: Very happy with my purchase.

1 Star Lens error problem is TRUE!!!
I read about the canon SD1100 having a “Lens error ” problem. Well I bought the camera anyway because I liked everything about it. Took great pictures. But then out of nowhere I went to take a picture and when I turned it on all that happened was a beep and the screen said lens error, restart camera. I’ve tried restarting about 100 times and it still doesn’t work. This camera is not even a year old! I will NEVER buy another Canon powershot. If you read reviews about this camera this is a common problem. Wish i would have listened!

5 Stars BEST COMPACT CAMERA
After reading reviews and shopping, I purchased the Canon SD1100IS. The camera is everything all the 5 star reviews said. The only thing that is a change for me is getting used to the zoom control. It is different than all the rocker switch controls that I am used to and is mounted on the top of the camera. I would redesign this control. Otherwise, this is a great little camera that I would recommend for anyone to take with them wherever they go.

5 Stars Almost All Praise for this Camera
Love the camera and picture quality. Beats the pants off of the comparable Nikons in it’s class. Only complaint, the scroll wheel is a bit lazy in its response. Love it.

5 Stars Gift
REF[[ASIN:B0011ZK6OS Canon PowerShot SD790IS 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom].

This Canon PowerShot SD790IS has been an excellent gift for my 18 year old son. This camera received a lot of excellent reviews and now I see why. The SD790IS has basic functions that are easy to use right out of the box and yet is challenging enough to keep it interesting for a tech savy person. Amazon, your delivery time was very impressive. The camera was delivered days before the estimated delivery date. Bravo. You are my favorite shopping source for gift giving and personal online purchases. Thanks!

3 Stars Depends what you’re using it for

How one rates this camera will depend on what they’re using it for, I think.

Pros:

It’s good for a casual photographer – a professional will obviously be looking into more expensive models. If you have many events to document, or simply enjoy taking pictures of the things around you, you likely won’t be disappointed in this camera.

I myself enjoy taking pictures, mostly for art reference, but I do not fancy myself a photographer by any means. I want to be able to point and shoot, and this camera handles that well. If you know what you’re doing, though, you can tinker with the settings and change things around to suit your needs.

Cons:

My problem with this camera was the difference between what I saw on the LCD screen and what I saw once the picture was taken. The colors were often drastically different in moderate to low lighting, and since every good picture is not out in broad daylight and there are some really beautiful colors at sunset, I was kind of peeved. Odd lighting seemed to confuse the camera, and the pictures wouldn’t turn out looking like what you yourself were staring at.

Also, when taking pictures of various artwork (I was hoping to get away with taking pictures instead of having to buy a big ol’ scanner), whether I stood the thing on a tripod or used macro settings… nothing would get the pictures of the art to come out crisp and clean. They were always just a bit blurry.

Overall:

For the price, you can’t beat this camera. As long as you’re not trying to get amazing, perfect pictures out of it – as long as you have the right expectations – you won’t be disappointed. It’s not for me, as I need something more precise for what I use it for, but everyone who just wants something to tote along with them on vacations ought to give it a try.

5 Stars Great camera
I love my new camera!! I took it on my trip and I was able to take so many great pictures. Very fast shipping!!

5 Stars Wonderful Digital Camera
I totally enjoy this camera. I bought it for a trip and took thousands of pictures. It takes beautiful sunset, underwater pictures & video, and floral pictures, besides the normal pictures. I also liked the ISO3200 setting to take wildlife pictures in motion, such as butterflies, hummingbirds & bees. I only wish the camera had a view finder like the older version. I enjoyed the video setting, but just make sure you have a big memory card to hold all your data. Im still learning all the camera can do for me (had it for 1 month). It is amazing how you can take such a small camera and take award winning photos in (using the wp-dc24 waterproof case) & out of the water. Great buy!!

The only thing that is a change for me is getting used to the zoom control. It is different than all the rocker switch controls that I am used to and is mounted on the top of the camera. I would redesign this control. Otherwise, this is a great little camera that I would recommend for anyone to take with them wherever they go.

5 Stars Canon SD890IS
I received the camera on time and most excited thing is it’s working wonderfully. The 5X optical zoom fearure is great to capture objects far away from you, which I didn’t have that luxury with some of my previous cameras.

I’m very happy with the product and hope that it will last long.

4 Stars Good Pictures Flimsy Battery Cover, Bad On/Off, Grainy Screen
Just got this today. Would give the camera casing a 3 star rating, but the photo quality is excellent. It iiiis true what they say about the on/off switch. What a pain to push it in, but my complaint is the battery covering. It feels so flimsy that it could fall off with the slightest bang. When I closed it, it appeared to be slightly out of line. I immediately checked the length of the warranty, which says 1 year, so we will se what happens. I snapped a couple of test shots in low lighting and the pictures came out great and very sharp, despite the incredibly grainy preview image on the screen. Gonna keep it though because I have faith in Canon and the photos came out great…

4 Stars Nice camera
I bought this to get a faster shutter response than my old Kodak. It delivered. I see reviews about the on/off button. It is a little hard to push, but I don’t want to accidently hit it. No problem to me. I did have an odd problem when I first bought it with a line through some pictures. I finally decided it was the fact I was using it skiing in Montana at -10 degrees. Haven’t seen a problem since.

5 Stars 890 0903
The SD890IS is my fourth Cannon digital. I am particularly pleased. I am testing it on a three week ski trip. Features such as “Snow” and Anti- Shake work better than expected. I have used the “Continuous” for recording fast moving skiing with very nice results. I have created several impressive “Stitched” mountain panorama.

Only short fall is camera surface is very slick and hard to handle with cold fingers. A textured surface would be a big improvement.

We are very happy that we again choose Canon.

Bob

4 Stars Great Point and Shoot!
I go with SLR and Digital SLR mostly; however, I knew I needed a good medium range point and shoot camera for small trips. I cant complain much about the camera other than hard to press power on/off button and the small zoom control. Maybe its because of my big hands, but these two buttons are difficult for me to use.

The pictures I was able to take were amazing. I’m glad I bought this as a secondary substitute for my Canon Digital SLR

I have absolutely no regrets in buying this camera. I will look out for Canon’s other point and shoot cameras in the past.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars One major problem if . . .
First of all, going from a 3 Megapixel camera I bought five years ago and found totally adequate to finally getting this 8-Megapixel wonder is an incredible experience. The fact that I paid 1/3 less for this camera than my previous digital snap-shooter makes the experience even more incredible!

It does everything as advertised for the tyro AND advanced photographer. Put it on Auto and you just press the button and an acceptable image appears on the LCD screen and goes into memory. Go through the Menu, set white balance, maximum resolution, aperture or shutter speed and you’ve got the potential of producing a really good shot.

As the title for this review suggests, however, there is one thing about this camera that I found disturbing. It’s the “press the shutter button half way to focus then press all the way to take the picture” maneuver that is not overridable in the Menu. This may not be a problem if the purchaser is the only one using this camera, but give it to a complete stranger to take a picture of you and the wife in front of the Golden Gate Bridge and you are going to end up with a picture that will probably be out of focus. Let’s face it, the average Joe you give the camera to to take a picture of you will have no idea of what you’re talking about when you instruct him on proper shutter button etiquette.

A second, minor thought. After reading the instruction book thoroughly, one is left with the impression that the largest capacity SD card it will accept is a 512 Megabyte job. Which is not true. I loaded an 8 Gigabyte, Sandisk Ultra III card into the slot and it works perfectly.

All in all, I would recommend this camera to snap-shooter and advanced photographer alike. Just don’t toss the thing to a fellow tourist to take a picture of you unless you want the image to be out of focus.

4 Stars “Love it”
I didnt expect much from this camera but I was remarkably surprised. It takes great pictures and adjusts automically if you hold it sideways or straight..thats pretty neat. I compared prices for this camera and it was at the best on amazon.

5 Stars Best buy for the price!
We lost our really high end camera and were at a loss to replace it for a reasonable price. This camera fit the bill pricewise, and it has fulfilled more than we had hoped. The size is excellent, the viewscreen is perfect, the quality of pictures is spectacular, the zoom is very handy, it lasts quite a while on one set of batteries though when they start getting low you may lose the date. All in all I would say this is the best camera to get for a daily use camera for family shots and other fun things.

5 Stars powershot
best deal on the market, no one offered this camera for the same price. and with amazon your always safe shopping. excellent camera.

5 Stars Excellent Camera
This Canon camera does an excellent job. The pictures are incredible. It is so easy to set up and hook up to the computer. I absolutely love it, and highly recommend it to everyone.

5 Stars Great Camera, Great Value
I actually had wanted one of the more expensive canon 10 MP point-and-shoot cameras, but this one was in a much more affordable price range. It has surpassed all of my expectations – it takes amazingly crisp pictures, it is very compact, and it still has a manual viewfinder. This can be very handy when taking shots of bright objects (scenery with the sun in it), because digital screens will show lines and bright spots that won’t show up in your final exposure.

The camera has an accelerometer like the higher end models, so it will flip he image sideways as you turn the camera sideways, and fill the screen.

I’ve taken side-by-side pictures with my girlfriend, who is using a top-of-the-line sony cybershot. My images come out with truer color and more clarity every time. It has a higher resolution screen, better zoom, more modes, and better battery life. It’s also more compact, and more intuitive to zoom and control.

If you are looking for a great new point-and-shoot camera, I can assure that you will not be disappointed. It has all of the features you could want, and has a bunch of different modes for night shots and so forth. I am perfectly content with it, and wouldn’t trade it for any other camera I have seen or used.

5 Stars Great Portable Camera
We purchased this camera as an anniversary present and to give us more mobility when out and about with pictures. We have a Canon 30D DSLR and LOVE Canon products, but it was a little cumbersome to bring along. We took this on a trip to Disneyland and LOVED how portable it was.

Takes great pictures, is fast and responsive (for a compact, not as fast as a DSLR), the screen is bright, and videos are surprisingly good. No complaints. For the price we paid ($144 on a gold box special) this was a GREAT buy.

No “cons” or complaints.

5 Stars Really Great Camera!!
I purchased this camera to replace my older Canon, which was starting to show signs of old age. I was thrilled with this PowerShot…it takes FANTASTIC pictures. I use it sometimes to photograph my ceramic art and it honestly made one of the bowls look better than it actually does in person! It is very easy to use…easy transition from sepia/black and white/color – unlike previous versions. It has been a wonderful camera and I will most definitely get my use out of it!

5 Stars Photos are better than I expected
I was surprised at how sharp the photos are on this camera. The detail is superb. It took me awhile to discover all the setting options, such as one for snow, but once I did my winter shots are the best I’ve seen. This camera is worth the money!

5 Stars Excellent product!!
Really good product! I would recommend this camera to anybody who wants a high quality camera at a reasonable price.

I like the optical viewfinder which is very helpful when you film outdoor, under bright sunshine.

Amazon service is awesome too.

5 Stars Canon Review
Great camera. Takes great pictures and is easy to operate. It has just enough options to take good pictures, but is easy for a novice to use. Would recommend this camera for someone who likes taking pictures and has a little bit of experience with utlizing the different options.

5 Stars Excellent product!!
Really good product! I would recommend this camera to anybody who wants a high quality camera at a reasonable price.

I like the optical viewfinder which is very helpful when you film outdoor, under bright sunshine.

Amazon service is awesome too.

5 Stars Photos are better than I expected
I was surprised at how sharp the photos are on this camera. The detail is superb. It took me awhile to discover all the setting options, such as one for snow, but once I did my winter shots are the best I’ve seen. This camera is worth the money!

5 Stars Canon Review
Great camera. Takes great pictures and is easy to operate. It has just enough options to take good pictures, but is easy for a novice to use. Would recommend this camera for someone who likes taking pictures and has a little bit of experience with utlizing the different options.
